Before & after departure

On 2nd October 2008, 3 members from the 'Envelopes Of Love' committee went on an tiring yet enriching 26 hours train ride to Cheng Du. They are Xing Le from Singapore, Ah Lan from Korea and Guan Fei from Indonesia.

This trip to Sichuan is not only to survey the living conditions, but also to take the chance to visit those children affected by the earthquake. One week before our departure, upon knowing our project, Mr Wang He, a China student currently studying in Canada decided to donate 500RMB to show support in our porject. Hence, our entire committee would like to express for graditute to Mr Wang He, and we have made use of this sum of money to get little gifts of thoughts to the children over there.

Thanks to Beijing Horizon Educational Centre, we will be visiting 2 schools. Other than surveying the conditions over there, we will also be giving those chidren there English, Korean and Indonesian Language lessons. Our beijing-based committee members made a number of preparations for the trip, and this includes lesson materials and basic necessities.

After 26 hours, we finally arrived at Cheng Du train station! The station was hanging with banners showing the unity of the Chinese in their earthquake relief mission. Although it's been 5 months after the earthquake took place, but we were so touched by the efforts of the people in rebuilding their homes and this indeed served as an motivation for us.
When one is in trouble, everyone else will help.
Play a part in rebuilding by ensuring smooth traffic.

We will blog more photos and thoughts for our trip soon, not only will we introduce the 2 primary schools, we would also introduce some of the volunteers helping in the earth quake affected zones!

Xingle's journey to Sichuan

Xingle has embarked on her journey to Sichuan with 2 other committee members in Beijing to see how the conditions are in area. They hope to find out more about the well-being of the children there and what else could be done to inspire the children. They hope to oversee the distribution of the 1st batch of letters as well. The Envelopes of Love team here back in Singapore wishes them all the best and we hope to hear their experiences soon.

Children's Day

It is now 1st October. In Singapore, 1st October is known to be Childrens' Day here. In China, 1st October is the National Day. On this happy occasion we wish that all the children in the world are provided the love and care that they deserve. No child should be left on their own. We hope that the Children of Singapore will cherish what they have here and learn to share their joy and happiness to those around them.
